Bachelor Programme

Medicine

Edinburgh's six-year MBChB prepares students to become Foundation Year 1 doctors with a strong grounding in research and evidence-based medicine. Years 1 and 2 integrate biomedicine with the social and ethical aspects of medicine, research skills and early clinical skills; Year 3 is an honours year leading to a Bachelor of Medical Sciences (BMedSci), usually with a research dissertation; and Years 4 to 6 are clinical, with placements in Edinburgh's teaching hospitals, general practices and peripheral sites across Scotland, finishing with an apprenticeship-style final year. The programme is accredited by the General Medical Council. Entry is through UCAS (course code A100) by 15 October; the UCAT and an interview are required.
