Chemistry
Chemistry at UBC Vancouver is a four-year BSc that studies matter and how it changes, with electives that let students focus on biological, computational, environmental, theoretical or materials chemistry. Undergraduate research is a priority, through upper-level research courses and summer research awards, and the program is offered as a major or honours (with combined options such as Chemical Biology or Biochemistry and Chemistry), with co-op available. This is not a direct-entry program: students are admitted to the Faculty of Science (BSc) and apply for the Chemistry specialization at the end of first year.

Tuition Information
2026/27 first-year tuition: CAD 53,082.00 per year for international students (Science rate, CAD 1,769.40 per credit x 30 credits) and CAD 6,200.70 for Canadian students (CAD 206.69 per credit x 30 credits). Fees for students starting in 2027/28 have not yet been published. Tuition only; student fees, health insurance and housing are extra.
Admission Requirements
- Specialization eligibility after first year: first-year chemistry (CHEM 111, 121 or 141, plus CHEM 123) and differential and integral calculus (MATH 101 or 121), or SCIE 001; admission is competitive
- BC high school: English Studies 12 (or English First Peoples 12), Pre-Calculus 12 and one of Anatomy & Physiology 12, Chemistry 12 or Physics 12, plus Chemistry 11 and Physics 11
- IB: Math AA (SL/HL) or Math AI HL, plus one of IB Biology, Chemistry or Physics
- English language proof, if required, is due February 15, 2027 (see English Language Requirements below)
