Data Science

Data Science at UBC Vancouver is an interdisciplinary four-year BSc major, offered jointly by the Departments of Computer Science and Statistics, that covers programming, statistical modelling, machine learning and data visualization. It places strong emphasis on ethical, transparent and reproducible data practice and on communicating results clearly, and co-op is available. This is not a direct-entry program: students are admitted to the Faculty of Science (BSc) and apply to the Data Science major at the end of first year.

Tuition Information

2026/27 first-year tuition: CAD 53,082.00 per year for international students (Science rate, CAD 1,769.40 per credit x 30 credits) and CAD 6,200.70 for Canadian students (CAD 206.69 per credit x 30 credits). Fees for students starting in 2027/28 have not yet been published. Tuition only; student fees, health insurance and housing are extra.

Admission Requirements

Major eligibility after first year: DSCI 100, CPSC 103 or 110, and differential calculus (MATH 100, 110, 120 or 180) or SCIE 001; admission is competitive and not guaranteed
BC high school: English Studies 12 (or English First Peoples 12) and Pre-Calculus 12
One of Anatomy & Physiology 12, Chemistry 12 or Physics 12, plus Chemistry 11 and Physics 11
IB: Math AA (SL/HL) or Math AI HL, plus one of IB Biology, Chemistry or Physics
English language proof, if required, is due February 15, 2027 (see English Language Requirements below)
