Bachelor Programme
First Nations and Endangered Languages
First Nations and Endangered Languages (FNEL) at UBC Vancouver is an interdisciplinary Bachelor of Arts major in the Institute for Critical Indigenous Studies on the documentation, conservation and revitalization of endangered languages and Indigenous knowledge systems. Through a partnership with the Musqueam Indian Band, students can take classes in the Musqueam (Coast Salish) language and cultural heritage, held at the Musqueam Indian Reserve, alongside other First Nations language courses and methods courses on language documentation. This is not a direct-entry program: students are admitted to the Bachelor of Arts and self-declare the major once they reach second-year standing.
