Geology

Geology at UBC Vancouver is a four-year BSc on the Earth's origin, structure and evolution and the minerals, rocks and fluids it is made of, with field work and experiential learning at its core. It is offered as a Major in Geology or an Honours in Geological Sciences, both built to provide the courses needed for professional geoscience accreditation, and co-op is available. This is not a direct-entry program: students are admitted to the Faculty of Science (BSc) and apply for the Geology specialization at the end of first year.

Tuition Information

2026/27 first-year tuition: CAD 53,082.00 per year for international students (Science rate, CAD 1,769.40 per credit x 30 credits) and CAD 6,200.70 for Canadian students (CAD 206.69 per credit x 30 credits). Fees for students starting in 2027/28 have not yet been published. Tuition only; student fees, health insurance and housing are extra.

Admission Requirements

No specific first-year courses are required to apply for the specialization after first year; the Honours option includes an independent final-year research project
BC high school: English Studies 12 (or English First Peoples 12), Pre-Calculus 12 and one of Anatomy & Physiology 12, Chemistry 12 or Physics 12, plus Chemistry 11 and Physics 11
IB: Math AA (SL/HL) or Math AI HL, plus one of IB Biology, Chemistry or Physics
English language proof, if required, is due February 15, 2027 (see English Language Requirements below)
