Geophysics
Geophysics at UBC Vancouver is a four-year BSc that applies physics, mathematics and chemistry to understand the Earth's structure, subsurface and dynamic behaviour, with strong training in computation and data analysis. Students choose science electives from geophysics, math, physics, geology, astronomy, oceanography and chemistry, can follow an honours route toward research, and can qualify for Professional Geoscientist registration with suitable courses; co-op is available. This is not a direct-entry program: students are admitted to the Faculty of Science (BSc) and apply for the Geophysics specialization at the end of first year.

Tuition Information
2026/27 first-year tuition: CAD 53,082.00 per year for international students (Science rate, CAD 1,769.40 per credit x 30 credits) and CAD 6,200.70 for Canadian students (CAD 206.69 per credit x 30 credits). Fees for students starting in 2027/28 have not yet been published. Tuition only; student fees, health insurance and housing are extra.
Admission Requirements
- Specialization eligibility after first year: differential and integral calculus (e.g. MATH 101 or 121) and 3 credits of first-year physics, or SCIE 001; admission is competitive and based on your average
- BC high school: English Studies 12 (or English First Peoples 12), Pre-Calculus 12 and one of Anatomy & Physiology 12, Chemistry 12 or Physics 12, plus Chemistry 11 and Physics 11
- IB: Math AA (SL/HL) or Math AI HL, plus one of IB Biology, Chemistry or Physics
- English language proof, if required, is due February 15, 2027 (see English Language Requirements below)
