Bachelor Programme

Linguistics

Linguistics at UBC Vancouver is a four-year Bachelor of Arts major in the systematic study of how language works, from sound systems (phonetics and phonology) to form and meaning (morphology, syntax and semantics) and how languages change over time. Students analyze data from languages of contrasting structure, such as Cantonese, local First Nations languages and Haitian Creole, and complete 6 credits in a language other than English; Honours and co-op are available. This is not a direct-entry program: students are admitted to the Bachelor of Arts and can declare the major after completing 27 credits.
