Marine Biology
Marine Biology at UBC Vancouver is an Honours specialization within the four-year Biology BSc, taught by the Departments of Botany and Zoology, combining marine-focused biology and oceanography courses with a final-year research project. Students can also take marine field courses at the Bamfield Marine Sciences Centre on Vancouver Island, including a four-month fall immersion program. This is not a direct-entry program: students are admitted to the Faculty of Science (BSc), enter a Biology specialization after first year, and then apply to the Marine Biology Honours specialization.

Tuition Information
2026/27 first-year tuition: CAD 53,082.00 per year for international students (Science rate, CAD 1,769.40 per credit x 30 credits) and CAD 6,200.70 for Canadian students (CAD 206.69 per credit x 30 credits). Fees for students starting in 2027/28 have not yet been published. Tuition only; student fees, health insurance and housing are extra.
Admission Requirements
- Students first enter the Biology Major (in second or third year), then apply to Marine Biology Honours through the Biology Office in May or August
- Applicants must meet the Faculty of Science honours requirements
- BC high school: English Studies 12 (or English First Peoples 12), Pre-Calculus 12 and one of Anatomy & Physiology 12, Chemistry 12 or Physics 12, plus Chemistry 11 and Physics 11
- IB: Math AA (SL/HL) or Math AI HL, plus one of IB Biology, Chemistry or Physics
- English language proof, if required, is due February 15, 2027 (see English Language Requirements below)
