Medical Laboratory Science
Medical Laboratory Science at UBC Vancouver is a two-year Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Science from the Faculty of Medicine, based in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at UBC Hospital, that students enter in third year. It covers the science behind hospital and research laboratory disciplines such as clinical chemistry, haematology, histology, medical microbiology, molecular biology, immunology and cytology, with small classes, extensive hands-on lab work and an optional directed research project. This is not a direct-entry program: students first complete about two years of university prerequisites (or a medical laboratory technologist diploma) and apply during their second year.

Tuition Information
2026/27 tuition: CAD 67,237.20 per year for international students (Medical Laboratory Science rate, CAD 1,769.40 per credit x 38 credits) and CAD 7,854.22 for Canadian students (CAD 206.69 per credit x 38 credits). Fees for students starting in 2027/28 have not yet been published. Tuition only; student fees, health insurance and housing are extra.
Admission Requirements
- Third-year entry only: high-school applicants are not eligible and should first enrol in a related UBC program
- Undergraduate route: first-year chemistry, biology (BIOL 112 and 121), 6 credits of math, 3 credits of physics and 6 credits of communication, plus BIOL 200/201, organic chemistry (CHEM 233/235), 3 credits of second-year microbiology and 6 Arts credits
- Alternative route: a CSMLS Medical Laboratory Technologist diploma (or equivalent) plus organic chemistry
- International applicants are accepted, but qualified Canadian citizens and permanent residents get priority
- English language proof, if required, is due February 15, 2027 (see English Language Requirements below)
