Microbiology and Immunology
Microbiology and Immunology at UBC Vancouver is a four-year BSc covering bacteria, fungi and viruses, the immune system and the microbiome, and their roles in human and environmental health. Students build lab skills in cell culture, genomics and data science, can concentrate in areas such as virology or environmental microbiology, and can combine the subject with Computer Science or Oceanography; honours and co-op are available. This is not a direct-entry program: students are admitted to the Faculty of Science (BSc) and apply for the Microbiology and Immunology specialization at the end of first year.

Tuition Information
2026/27 first-year tuition: CAD 53,082.00 per year for international students (Science rate, CAD 1,769.40 per credit x 30 credits) and CAD 6,200.70 for Canadian students (CAD 206.69 per credit x 30 credits). Fees for students starting in 2027/28 have not yet been published. Tuition only; student fees, health insurance and housing are extra.
Admission Requirements
- Specialization eligibility after first year: first-year chemistry (CHEM 111, 121 or 141, plus CHEM 123) and BIOL 112, or SCIE 001; admission is competitive and based on your average; students are admitted to the Major first and can move to Honours later
- BC high school: English Studies 12 (or English First Peoples 12), Pre-Calculus 12 and one of Anatomy & Physiology 12, Chemistry 12 or Physics 12, plus Chemistry 11 and Physics 11
- IB: Math AA (SL/HL) or Math AI HL, plus one of IB Biology, Chemistry or Physics
- English language proof, if required, is due February 15, 2027 (see English Language Requirements below)
