Music
Music at UBC Vancouver, as listed on UBC's program pages, is the Bachelor of Arts Major in Music from the School of Music, for students who want to study music as one of the liberal arts. Students take core music history, theory and ensemble or world-music courses similar to the Bachelor of Music but without private instrumental or vocal lessons, and Honours and co-op are available. This is not a direct-entry program and needs no audition: students are admitted to the Bachelor of Arts and declare the major after completing 54 credits and the required music courses.

Tuition Information
2026/27 first-year tuition: CAD 51,530.40 per year for international students (Arts rate, CAD 1,717.68 per credit x 30 credits) and CAD 6,200.70 for Canadian students (CAD 206.69 per credit x 30 credits). Fees for students starting in 2027/28 have not yet been published. Tuition only; student fees, health insurance and housing are extra.
Admission Requirements
- No audition or application for the major: declare it after 54 credits; by the end of Year 2 complete MUSC 120, 121, 220 and 221, MUSC 128 or 165, and MUSC 100, 101 and 200
- Honours needs at least a 68% average in each year and includes MUSC 449; students who want private lessons or performance training should apply to the Bachelor of Music instead
- BC high school: English Studies 12 (or English First Peoples 12)
- IB: no specific courses beyond UBC's general admission requirements (Faculty of Arts)
- English language proof, if required, is due February 15, 2027 (see English Language Requirements below)
