Bachelor Programme
Political Science
Political Science at UBC Vancouver is a four-year Bachelor of Arts major on how collective decisions are made and power is exercised, with sub-fields in Canadian politics, comparative politics, international relations, political behaviour, political theory and public policy. Students can follow the general major or a Politics, Policy and Administration area of focus, and Honours, combined majors with Economics or Philosophy, and co-op are available. This is not a direct-entry program: students are admitted to the Bachelor of Arts and can declare the major once they reach second-year standing (27 credits).

Tuition Information
2026/27 first-year tuition: CAD 51,530.40 per year for international students (Arts rate, CAD 1,717.68 per credit x 30 credits) and CAD 6,200.70 for Canadian students (CAD 206.69 per credit x 30 credits). Fees for students starting in 2027/28 have not yet been published. Tuition only; student fees, health insurance and housing are extra.
Admission Requirements
- No application for the major: declare it at Year 2 standing (27 credits); lower-level requirements include POLI 100, 101 and 110
- Honours is by online application (open after February 1, due May 15) once students have 54 credits; spaces are limited, and students with an overall average of at least 80% are encouraged to apply
- BC high school: English Studies 12 (or English First Peoples 12)
- IB: no specific courses beyond UBC's general admission requirements (Faculty of Arts)
- English language proof, if required, is due February 15, 2027 (see English Language Requirements below)
