Social Work
The Bachelor of Social Work at UBC Vancouver is a CASWE-accredited professional degree from the School of Social Work, completed in two years full-time (or three years part-time). It trains students in generalist social work practice, combining courses in theory, policy, research and practice methods with a supervised practicum in a social agency, and puts social justice and structural analysis at its centre. This is not a direct-entry program: applicants need at least 60 university credits or a bachelor's degree, including SOWK 200 and 201, and about 60 students are admitted each year.

Tuition Information
2026/27 tuition: CAD 51,530.40 per year for international students (Social Work rate, CAD 1,717.68 per credit x 30 credits) and CAD 6,200.70 for Canadian students (CAD 206.69 per credit x 30 credits). Fees for students starting in 2027/28 have not yet been published. Tuition only; student fees, health insurance and housing are extra.
Admission Requirements
- At least 60 transferable Arts or Sciences credits, or a bachelor's degree, with at least 68% (2.67 GPA) on the most recent 30 credits
- Required: SOWK 200 and SOWK 201 (or equivalents) with at least a B in each, a first-year writing course and 18 credits of social sciences or humanities
- At least 100 hours of relevant paid or volunteer experience, a personal statement and two reference letters (supplemental materials due January 15, 2027)
- Applicants whose prior study was not in English need TOEFL (93 iBT) or Academic IELTS (6.5, no band below 6.0); admitted students need a criminal record check
