Statistics

Statistics at UBC Vancouver is a four-year BSc about collecting, organizing and analyzing data, built on mathematics, probability and computing, with courses such as regression modelling and the design of experiments. Students add a nine-credit thematic concentration in an area such as computer science, economics, life sciences, commerce or the social sciences, and the program is offered as a major or honours (including combined honours), with co-op available. This is not a direct-entry program: students are admitted to the Faculty of Science (BSc) and apply for the Statistics specialization at the end of first year.

Tuition Information

2026/27 first-year tuition: CAD 53,082.00 per year for international students (Science rate, CAD 1,769.40 per credit x 30 credits) and CAD 6,200.70 for Canadian students (CAD 206.69 per credit x 30 credits). Fees for students starting in 2027/28 have not yet been published. Tuition only; student fees, health insurance and housing are extra.

Admission Requirements

Specialization eligibility after first year: differential and integral calculus (MATH 101 or 121) and DSCI 100 (or 3 credits of statistics), or SCIE 001; Honours needs at least 65% in MATH 121, or 80% in MATH 101 with an 80% average in MATH 100/101
BC high school: English Studies 12 (or English First Peoples 12), Pre-Calculus 12 and one of Anatomy & Physiology 12, Chemistry 12 or Physics 12, plus Chemistry 11 and Physics 11
IB: Math AA (SL/HL) or Math AI HL, plus one of IB Biology, Chemistry or Physics
English language proof, if required, is due February 15, 2027 (see English Language Requirements below)
