The Bachelor of Health Sciences is an interdisciplinary degree run by UM's Rady Faculty of Health Sciences together with the Faculty of Arts, with classes on the Fort Garry campus. It looks at the physical and social sides of health and disease, with courses such as medical physiology, Indigenous Peoples in Canada, determinants of individual health and social epidemiology. Application Deadline

Fall 2027 (September) direct entry: apply by March 1, 2027. This is UM's annual direct-entry deadline for Fall, and applications open in early September. Direct-entry applicants who apply and pay the fee by December 1, 2026 are automatically entered in a draw for ten CAD 5,000 tuition prizes, five of them for international students

Tuition Information

International: CAD 764.11 per credit hour for Interdisciplinary Health (Health Sciences) courses in 2026-27 (courses taught by other faculties are charged at that faculty's rate). UM's estimate for a full Fall-Winter course load is about CAD 26,300, including program and lab fees, the U-Pass, gym pass and UMSU health and dental plan, plus the mandatory Manitoba International Student Health Plan for international students. Canadian citizens and permanent residents: CAD 181.80 per credit hour; UM's estimate is about CAD 7,600. Books and supplies are extra, and 2027-28 rates are not yet published.

Admission Requirements

  • Apply online through UM's application portal. The application fee is CAD 130 for international applicants and CAD 100 for Canadian citizens and permanent residents. If a direct-entry application is unsuccessful, it is automatically considered for University 1 (UM's general first year) at no extra cost
  • Manitoba curriculum: a minimum 85% average over English 40S, Applied or Pre-Calculus Mathematics 40S, Biology 40S and Chemistry 40S, with at least 60% in each
  • International curricula: an equivalent 85% average over senior-level English, Mathematics (senior-level or Pre-Calculus), Biology and Chemistry, with at least 60% in each
  • International Baccalaureate: an IB Diploma with an average of 6 (85%) over English, Mathematics, Biology and Chemistry, at least two of them HL and none below 3
  • These are minimums. When there are more eligible applicants than spaces, a higher average is needed, and UM notes that enrolment limits lead many faculties to restrict how many international students they admit
  • International students who need a study permit must accept the offer and pay a CAD 2,000 non-refundable tuition deposit before UM requests the Provincial Attestation Letter (PAL). The deposit is refunded only if IRCC refuses the study permit
  • English language proficiency is required unless you qualify for a waiver. Examples of waivers are study in an exempt country (such as the UK, US, Australia, Nigeria, Kenya, Ghana or Singapore), a full IB Diploma with 24+ points taught in English, CBSE or CISCE senior English at 75%+, or GCE/IGCSE English (non-ESL) at grade B or higher. Test minimums: IELTS Academic 6.5 with 6.0 in each band; TOEFL iBT 86 with 20 in each section (tests before January 20, 2026) or 4.5 overall with 4.0 in each section (tests from January 21, 2026); Duolingo 120 with 105 in each subscore; PTE Academic 58; CAEL 60; Cambridge C1 Advanced or C2 Proficiency 180. Results expire two years after the test date and must be valid when classes start
