Bachelor Programme

Nursing

UM's Bachelor of Nursing combines nursing knowledge with hands-on clinical practice in real-life settings. Students first complete a year of university courses (often in University 1) that covers the BN prerequisites, then apply to the 28-month program. Nursing courses cover human growth and development, older adults, pathophysiology and pharmacology, mental health, palliative care, law and ethics, and leadership, ending with a senior practicum. The College has expanded capacity, with intakes in September, January and May, and the program is also offered in The Pas and Thompson with University College of the North.

Tuition Information

International: CAD 723.22 per credit hour for Nursing courses in 2026-27 (courses taught by other faculties are charged at that faculty's rate). UM's estimate for a full Fall-Winter course load is about CAD 26,600, including program and lab fees, the U-Pass, gym pass and UMSU health and dental plan, plus the mandatory Manitoba International Student Health Plan for international students. Canadian citizens and permanent residents: CAD 177.76 per credit hour; UM's estimate is about CAD 8,800. A Nursing Clinical and Simulation Fee of CAD 425.74 applies to each designated clinical course. Books and supplies are extra, and 2027-28 rates are not yet published.

Admission Requirements

  • Apply online through UM's application portal. The application fee is CAD 130 for international applicants and CAD 100 for Canadian citizens and permanent residents. If a direct-entry application is unsuccessful, it is automatically considered for University 1 (UM's general first year) at no extra cost
  • Not a direct-entry program: you must first complete 30 credit hours of university courses with at least a C in each. These are BIOL 1410 (anatomy), BIOL 1412 (physiology, or BIOL 2410 and 2420), MBIO 1220 (or MBIO 3010), 9 credit hours of science electives and 12 credit hours of social science or humanities electives, and they must meet UM's written English and mathematics requirements. You also need an adjusted GPA of at least 2.5
  • High school applicants usually start in University 1. The international requirement for University 1 is an equivalent 70% average over senior-level English (or first-language literature), Mathematics and two more academic courses, with at least 60% in each. IB applicants need an average of 4 (70%) over the same subjects, at least two of them HL
  • General Category applicants are ranked by adjusted GPA, so meeting the minimum does not guarantee a place. Admitted students must then meet non-academic requirements by the stated deadline: immunizations, a criminal record check, child and adult abuse registry checks and CPR
  • These are minimums. When there are more eligible applicants than spaces, a higher average is needed, and UM notes that enrolment limits lead many faculties to restrict how many international students they admit
  • International students who need a study permit must accept the offer and pay a CAD 2,000 non-refundable tuition deposit before UM requests the Provincial Attestation Letter (PAL). The deposit is refunded only if IRCC refuses the study permit
  • English language proficiency is required unless you qualify for a waiver. Examples of waivers are study in an exempt country (such as the UK, US, Australia, Nigeria, Kenya, Ghana or Singapore), a full IB Diploma with 24+ points taught in English, CBSE or CISCE senior English at 75%+, or GCE/IGCSE English (non-ESL) at grade B or higher. Test minimums: IELTS Academic 6.5 with 6.0 in each band; TOEFL iBT 86 with 20 in each section (tests before January 20, 2026) or 4.5 overall with 4.0 in each section (tests from January 21, 2026); Duolingo 120 with 105 in each subscore; PTE Academic 58; CAEL 60; Cambridge C1 Advanced or C2 Proficiency 180. Results expire two years after the test date and must be valid when classes start
