Bachelor Programme
Medical Studies / Doctor of Medicine
UNSW's six-year Bachelor of Medical Studies / Doctor of Medicine is one of the few Australian medical degrees that school leavers can enter directly. Phase one (years 1-2) teaches the basic medical sciences through clinical scenarios, with clinical and communication skills from the start; phase two adds hospital placements in year 3 and a research year (Independent Learning Project or honours) in year 4; and phase three (years 5-6) is mainly clinical placements in metropolitan and rural hospitals. Graduates are eligible for provisional registration with the Medical Board of Australia. UNSW moves from its three-term calendar to a flex-semester calendar in 2028, so degrees started in 2026 or 2027 will span both calendars and their length may vary. Domestic students apply through UAC (code 428000); international students apply directly to UNSW (program code 3805), or through UAC if completing an Australian or NZ Year 12.
