Bachelor Programme
Computer Engineering
Computer Engineering at Lassonde looks at how hardware and software work together in real systems, from embedded devices and robotics to communication networks. After a common first year of lectures, labs and team design projects, students use industry tools and programming languages to design systems that sense, process and respond to their surroundings. Optional co-op is available.

Application Deadline
Fall 2027 applications go through OUAC. For guaranteed consideration, Ontario high school students should apply by January 15, 2027, and out-of-province, international and transfer applicants by March 24, 2027. York keeps accepting and assessing applications until each program is full, and recommends applying early to allow time for a study permit
Tuition Information
York's approximate 2026-27 tuition for a full-time student in Engineering: about CAD 10,600 a year for domestic students and about CAD 47,000 for international students. These figures are based on the 36 credits taken in first-year Engineering. Supplementary fees (student levies, athletics, health and counselling) are extra, typically about CAD 40-50 per credit, and international students pay about CAD 1,151 a year for UHIP health insurance and the student health plan. These are estimates for a full course load; actual fees depend on the courses taken. 2027-28 fees are not yet published.
Admission Requirements
- Apply through OUAC (the Ontario Universities' Application Centre) and choose York University and this program
- Ontario (OSSD): ENG4U, MHF4U, MCV4U, SCH4U and SPH4U plus one more 4U/M course. Applicants with averages in the mid-80s or higher may be considered; keeping the offer needs a final average of 78% on these courses and at least 70% in each prerequisite
- IB Diploma: the IB Diploma with six subjects (three HL and three SL, or four HL and two SL), including Chemistry and Physics (HL or SL) and one of Math Analysis and Approaches (HL or SL) or Applications and Interpretation HL. Applicants with 30 points or more may be considered, and 30 points are needed to keep the offer
- US high school diploma: senior-level chemistry, physics, algebra and calculus. Applicants with an A- (3.7) GPA or higher in Grade 11 and 12 academic courses may be considered, and the same GPA is needed to keep the offer
- Applicants from other Canadian provinces, A Levels and other curricula have their own course lists in the Requirements section of the program page
- Engineering applicants apply to York's BEng (OUAC code YT) and take a common first year, at Keele or through the First Year Engineering Core Program at Markham, before continuing in their engineering major from second year
- Co-op is optional: Lassonde students apply in second year and can take paid work terms of 4, 8 or 12 months
- York's published averages show the level at which applicants may be considered for admission, not a guaranteed cut-off. The average required is set each year for each program, some programs have limited enrolment, and offers are conditional on meeting the stated final average
- English proficiency: no test is needed after, for example, four full years of English-medium high school in Canada or in a country where English is the official primary language, or with the IB Diploma completed in English. Lassonde BEng programs otherwise require section minimums: IELTS Academic 6.5 with no band below 6.0, TOEFL iBT 4.5 with no section below 4.0 (or 88 with no section below 20 for tests taken before January 2026), PTE Academic 60 with no section below 60, CAEL 60 with no section below 60, Duolingo 120 with no subscore below 105, or Cambridge C1 Advanced with no score below 180. Tests are valid for two years
