Bachelor Programme

Computer Science

Computer Science at York's Lassonde School of Engineering is offered as a BSc, a BA, or an international iBSc or iBA. Labs, project courses and applied assignments start in first year, and in upper years students can take faculty-supervised projects on problems they help define. Science or liberal arts electives let students shape the degree, and optional co-op terms can be taken after second year.

Application Deadline

Fall 2027 applications go through OUAC. For guaranteed consideration, Ontario high school students should apply by January 15, 2027, and out-of-province, international and transfer applicants by March 24, 2027. York keeps accepting and assessing applications until each program is full, and recommends applying early to allow time for a study permit

Tuition Information

York's approximate 2026-27 tuition for a full-time student in Computer Science: about CAD 8,800 a year for domestic students and about CAD 38,000 for international students. Fees are based on 30 credits (five full courses). Supplementary fees (student levies, athletics, health and counselling) are extra, typically about CAD 40-50 per credit, and international students pay about CAD 1,151 a year for UHIP health insurance and the student health plan. These are estimates for a full course load; actual fees depend on the courses taken. 2027-28 fees are not yet published.

Admission Requirements

  • Apply through OUAC (the Ontario Universities' Application Centre) and choose York University and this program
  • Ontario (OSSD): for the BSc, ENG4U, MHF4U, MCV4U or MDM4U, and SCH4U or SPH4U, plus two more 4U/M courses (the BA needs no science and three more 4U/M courses instead). Applicants with averages in the low 80s or higher may be considered; keeping the offer needs a final average of 78% on these courses, a math average of at least 75% and no math prerequisite below 65%
  • IB Diploma: the IB Diploma with six subjects (three HL and three SL, or four HL and two SL), including Math Analysis and Approaches (HL or SL) or Applications and Interpretation HL with a grade of at least 5, and for the BSc also Chemistry or Physics (HL or SL). Applicants with 30 points or more may be considered, and 30 points are needed to keep the offer
  • US high school diploma: senior-level algebra and another senior math course, plus chemistry or physics for the BSc. Applicants with an A- (3.7) GPA or higher in Grade 11 and 12 academic courses may be considered, and the same GPA is needed to keep the offer
  • Applicants from other Canadian provinces, A Levels and other curricula have their own course lists in the Requirements section of the program page
  • OUAC codes: YSG (BSc), YPK (BA), YSY (iBSc), YPF (iBA)
  • Co-op is optional: Lassonde students apply in second year and can take paid work terms of 4, 8 or 12 months
  • York's published averages show the level at which applicants may be considered for admission, not a guaranteed cut-off. The average required is set each year for each program, some programs have limited enrolment, and offers are conditional on meeting the stated final average
  • English proficiency: no test is needed after, for example, four full years of English-medium high school in Canada or in a country where English is the official primary language, or with the IB Diploma completed in English. Otherwise York's minimums are IELTS Academic 6.5, TOEFL iBT 4.5 (88 for tests taken before January 2026), PTE Academic 60, CAEL 60, Duolingo 120, or Cambridge C1 Advanced with no score below 180. Tests are valid for two years
