Bachelor Programme

Nursing (4-Year Direct Entry)

York's Direct Entry Nursing BScN is for students with no previous nursing education. Students practise in a nursing simulation centre and a virtual and augmented reality lab, and from second year take clinical placements in hospitals and community settings across the Greater Toronto Area, in areas such as medical-surgical, paediatric, maternity, mental health and critical care nursing. The program is designed to lead to registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) as a Registered Nurse.

Tuition Information

York's approximate 2026-27 tuition for a full-time student in most Arts and Sciences programs: about CAD 6,200 a year for domestic students and about CAD 40,000 for international students. Fees are based on 30 credits (five full courses). Supplementary fees (student levies, athletics, health and counselling) are extra, typically about CAD 40-50 per credit, and international students pay about CAD 1,151 a year for UHIP health insurance and the student health plan. These are estimates for a full course load; actual fees depend on the courses taken. 2027-28 fees are not yet published.

Admission Requirements

  • Apply through OUAC (the Ontario Universities' Application Centre) and choose York University and this program
  • Ontario (OSSD): ENG4U, a 4U math, SBI4U, and SCH4U or SPH4U, plus two more 4U/M courses, with no prerequisite below 70%. Applicants with averages in the high 80s or higher may be considered; keeping the offer needs a final average of 86%
  • IB Diploma: the IB Diploma with six subjects (three HL and three SL, or four HL and two SL), including a math course (Analysis and Approaches or Applications and Interpretation, HL or SL), Biology, and Chemistry or Physics, with no prerequisite below 5. The program page does not give a minimum IB point score
  • US high school diploma: senior-level math, biology, and chemistry or physics, with no prerequisite below 70%. The program page does not give a minimum GPA
  • Applicants from other Canadian provinces, A Levels and other curricula have their own course lists in the Requirements section of the program page
  • OUAC code: YHW
  • The program has strict eligibility requirements beyond these minimums (see York's Direct Entry Nursing site)
  • York's published averages show the level at which applicants may be considered for admission, not a guaranteed cut-off. The average required is set each year for each program, some programs have limited enrolment, and offers are conditional on meeting the stated final average
  • English proficiency: no test is needed after, for example, four full years of English-medium high school in Canada or in a country where English is the official primary language, or with the IB Diploma completed in English. Nursing sets higher test minimums than most York programs: IELTS Academic 7.0, TOEFL iBT 5.0 (94 for tests taken before January 2026), PTE Academic 67, CAEL 67, Duolingo 130, or Cambridge C1 Advanced with no score below 193. Tests are valid for two years
